ERP & Manufacturing Systems
Thompson Partnership has a
wide experience of ERP systems and projects for the SME. We have
particular strengths in the manufacturing modules of these systems
covering material and production control. We are able to help your
company to use its existing systems more effectively, or to select and
implement a new system.
We:
- Examine your business
to determine which modules are most necessary
- Produce a specification
for a new system
- Help you to select the
software and supplier for your system
- Help you to manage your
ERP project
- Document the new system
- Provide ongoing
training and on-site help
ERP systems are
extremely complex. Thompson Partnership has worked in ERP with
suppliers and with end-users and has been involved in ERP projects
in SME's from both perspectives. In particular, we are familiar with
the manufacturing and material control aspects of ERP often
neglected by consultancies.
Our
Way of Working
In the case of ERP Systems projects or support, the initiative is really
with the customer.
We may be brought in to:
- Initiate an ERP project
-
Help with a project as an extra pair of hands
-
To help with an existing system
-
To troubleshoot a problem
-
To advise on new system and modules
We would always prefer to be involved in ERP systems from the very start
of the project. Much of the success of the project will lie in the
specification of the system, the structure of the project and the
management commitment and knowledge behind the project.
We can help reduce project costs for a new implementation by building up
a clear specification for new systems. Much of the cost of
implementation of a new system involves making management decisions and
building up procedures and ways of working. Many of those tasks can be
tackled before the software supplier's consultants come on site.
Analysis
Modern ERP systems are an evolution from MRP and MRP II systems. The
newer ERP systems have become very popular over the last few years.
Despite their origins in manufacturing, ERP systems have been
implemented in many different types of company: Manufacturing, Local
Authority, Utilities etc.
ERP systems are arguably the most complex systems that companies will
ever implement. They certainly have the most impact on the way that the
company works and the procedures that it follows. It is vital,
therefore, that the system is properly specified and tested and that the
project to implement the system is correctly managed.
As the table below shows, even separating manufacturing companies into
three rough categories reveals the different requirements of different
companies. In addition, many companies have unique practices that only
some systems are able to cope with.
